The Egg Donation Process - For Donors |
|
|
The process begins once you have completed and returned your egg donor questionnaire.
- Psychological Testing – You will meet with our counselor and be asked to take a written test (PAI)
- Physical Examination and testing of ovarian reserve – A physical
exam will be performed by one of our clinicians and an ultrasound will check your ovaries.
- Genetic Evaluation – You will meet or have a telephone conference
with our genetic counselor who will conduct an interview and construct a family tree checking for inherited diseases.
- Matching – Your profile will be made available to recipient couples.
We try to match donors and recipients as closely as possible.
- Final Testing – Once you have been chosen by a couple we will
complete the evaluation by obtaining additional blood tests (hepatitis, HIV, etc…)
- Cycle Coordination – Once you and your recipient have completed
all the screening we synchronize your cycles usually by using some form of hormonal manipulation. Once the cycles are synchronized, we begin the final preparation for the retrieval of your eggs.
- Signing Consents, Review Protocol, Injection Teaching – Consent
Forms are signed and your medication protocol is explained. The drugs used to produce multiple eggs are injected daily for approximately 10 days. You will be given instructions on how to administer the drugs.
- Ovarian Stimulation – We begin the treatment which will result in
the production of multiple eggs. During this treatment we will ask to see you several times to follow your progress and time the eggs recovery.
- Egg Recovery – The final step of the process. The procedure is
performed in our Stamford office in a special procedure room. The eggs are retrieved vaginally using a needle guided by ultrasound. The procedure is approximately 10 minutes long and the recovery takes an hour. You will need to arrange for transportation.
- Compensation & Follow-Up – Your compensation of $8,000 will be
paid on the day of your egg retrieval. You are expected to have a follow-up visit after the onset of your period to make sure that the effects of the drugs have subsided.
