Recipient Couples

Egg donation has been practiced for 20 years. The process is becoming commonplace as the rates of success improve and the availability of donors increases. Rigorous screening has brought standardization to this area and ensures “high quality” donors. Donor screening is regulated by the FDA providing an additional measure of security.

Couples requiring egg donors fall into different categories

  • Age related decrease in ovarian function—The largest group are women in their early 40’s whose ovarian function does not allow successful pregnancy.
  • Premature ovation failure (PDF)—Cessation of ovarian function at an early age as a result of genetics, disease or surgery.
  • Repeated IVF failure due to poor egg quality.
  • Genetic conditions—carried by the female partner that preclude normal pregnancy.
  • Gay Couples—interested in a child/children who is/are genetically related to one or both partners.

Success of egg donation cycles is high and exceeds 50% for most couples. The success is related to the ability of the recipient to carry (uterine condition) as well as the quality of the sperm. The statistics of egg donation cycles are reported to the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology and are published annually on the CDC web site.

NEFI’s success has always been among the highest in the nation. This is due to our strict criteria for donor selection as well as regimens used to prepare the recipients. The high success we enjoy with egg donor recipients is also a reflection or our embryology laboratory and its skillful handling of the eggs and embryos.
