Gender Selection at the New England Fertility Institute

Gender selection is now a reality!

Available technology allows couples to choose the gender of their child for either genetic or family balancing purposes.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is combined with Pre-implantation Screening (PGS) to identify the gender of the embryo. The woman is implanted only with the embryo of the desired gender.

The Process:

Eggs are removed from the woman’s ovary and fertilized with her partner’s sperm (in vitro fertilization) to create embryos. Three days later a cell is removed from each growing embryo. The cell is analyzed for gender as well as some genetic disorders (e.g. Down’s Syndrome). Selected embryos are then implanted into the woman’s uterus. Extra embryos can be frozen and stored for later use.

Sperm Sorting:

New England Fertility Institute uses the most advanced sperm sorting technology for gender selection known as Microsort™. Sperm sorting can be combined with Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) to increase the odds of having a child of a desired gender. Couples will be screened for qualification criteria. For more information on Microsort™ visit www.microsort.net.
