Egg Freezing

Oocyte Cryopreservation

Egg and Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation

New and exciting developments in cryobiology now allow for successful freezing of eggs. Earlier concerns regarding the safety of this technique have been largely been dispelled.

Egg Freezing

Eggs can be obtained with or without ovarian stimulation. The eggs are frozen without having been fertilized thus avoiding the ethical and practical concerns.

Ovarian Tissue Freezing

Freezing of ovarian slices of entire ovaries is an exiting new development. These may occur in surgical cases, when the ovaries need to be removed or in the cases there chemotherapy need to be administered without delay. Removal and freezing of the ovary or even a segment of the ovary may the only option for certain individuals. Similar to sperm and embryo, frozen eggs can be stored for prolonged periods without any deterioration in quality or pregnancy potential. When needed, the frozen egg will be thawed, fertilized and placed into the possibility of implanting ovarian tissue back the individual following successful treatment of their cancer.

General Information

LIFELINE CRYOGENICS is one of a handful of institutions worldwide that currently offers the cryopreservation (freezing at a very low temperature, such as liquid nitrogen (-196 degrees C), to keep the stem cells, sperm and/or embryos viable to store them for future use.) of eggs.

Laboratory Blood Testing

  • HIV I & II
  • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
  • Hepatitis B Core Antibody
  • Hepatitis C
  • HTLV I & II
  • Syphilis

All eggs/oocyte storage clients are required to have the following infectious disease testing at the time of the storage. All test results remain confidential. It may be necessary to report certain positive test results to the State Health Dept. At the time of the consultation, the candidate’s suitability discussed in detail.
