Day of Retrieval: Instructions – Egg Donors
- The trip home: Someone must accompany you on your trip home after your procedure.
- Stay home for 24 hours: It is recommended that someone stay with you at home for the first 24 hours.
- Activity: Moderate activity is allowed, as tolerated.
- What to avoid: You may feel light headed, dizzy and/or sleepy for up to 24 hours following your procedure. You should therefore not engage in any activity that requires you to be alert and coordinated (i.e. driving). Also avoid alcoholic beverages.
- What to expect: Minimal abdominal cramping and/or vaginal spotting are common and are not a cause for concern. You may take Tylenol (Regular or Extra
Strength) every 4-6 hours for pain/discomfort. Avoid taking Ibuprofen, (Advil or Motrin) and Aspirin or Aspirincontaining products.
A NEFI Nurse will call you later on the day of your procedure to follow up on your recovery.
Call the office immediately for the following
- Severe abdominal pain or cramping
- Difficulty breathing
- Vaginal bleeding
- A temperature over 100.4F
- Nausea and vomiting.
Note: If you have difficulty contacting a nurse or a Physician, and you feel you signs/symptoms warrant immediate attention, call 911 for assistance.
The Day Following the Retrieval
- Activity: You may resume normal activity. You may return to work. You should expect some abdominal discomfort and some spotting. Those symptoms will subside gradually.
