The Day Following the Retrieval
- Activity: You may resume normal activity. You may return to work. You should expect some abdominal discomfort and some spotting. Those symptoms will subside gradually.
- Fertilization report: You will receive a telephone call from one of the Embryologists concerning fertilization of your eggs and the anticipated day of the transfer. You will be asked to indicate where you can be reached by telephone.
- Timing of your embryo transfer: The embryologist will discuss with you the anticipated day of transfer. The exact time of your transfer will be communicated to you by telephone one (1) day prior to your transfer procedure by the nurse. Embryo transfers are generally done four days following the retrieval but can occur anywhere from day 3 to 5. The decision on the exact timing of the transfer is made on an individual basis in order to maximize the chances of success.
