What is Gestational Surrogacy and when is it done
NEFI prides itself for being one of the largest surrogacy programs in the Northeast.
Gestational Surrogacy is recommended when the female partner is unable to carry a pregnancy or when there is no female partner.
- Surgery – hysterectomy or other surgery that renders the uterus nonfunctional
- Pregnancy Loss – due to an abnormal uterus
- Severe complications of pregnancy
- Medical condition that precludes pregnancy (kidney disease, multiple sclerosis)
- Gay male couples who desire to have a child using their sperm, nd egg donor, and a gestational carrier.
In most cases the female partner has normal ovarian function and is able to produce normal eggs.
The process of gestational surrogacy involves in-vitro fertilization. The female partner (or egg donor) receives medications to generate multiple eggs. The eggs are then harvested and fertilized with the male partner’s sperm and the healthy embryos are transferred into the uterus of the carrier who has been treated with hormones.
The success of Gestational surrogacy is high and largely depends on the quality of the eggs and the sperm. The surrogates are chosen and screened specifically so they have a good chance of becoming pregnant and having a successful pregnancy.
