About LGBT Family Building

LGBT Family Building at New England Fertility

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) couples and individuals can build their families through assisted reproductive care, requiring certain fertility services. These services can include IUI, IVF, egg donation, sperm donation and/or gestational surrogacy.

We are proud to have worked with many LGBT patients and we warmly welcome all same-sex male, bisexual, transgender and lesbian individuals/couples to our practice.

LBGT Families and New England Fertility

After an initial consultation, our team will provide the best recommended treatment plan for your growing family’s needs. If an egg donor, sperm donor and/or gestational surrogate is needed, we will provide a patient coordinator who can assist in your search and help find the right donor and/or surrogate for your growing family.

As a same-sex couple, we relied on New England Fertility’s expertise in order to make our dreams of parenthood come true. There was no issue too big or too small for them to address with patience, compassion, and determination.”

LGBT Family Building FAQs

What options are available for same-sex female couples?

There are several options for same-sex female couples, depending on you and your partner’s desire about who will donate the eggs and carry the pregnancy. Here are the most common ways New England Fertility works with our lesbian patients:

  • IUI: One partner receives donor sperm and carries the pregnancy
  • IVF: One partner’s extracted eggs are combined with donor sperm and she carries the pregnancy using IVF
  • This is typically offered in cases where IUI treatment has not been successful
  • IVF Co-Maternity: One partner provides the eggs to be combined with the sperm, and the other partner carries the pregnancy via IVF. This procedure is also known as Reciprocal IVF.

Some patients choose to work with a known sperm donor (usually a family member or close friend), and others work with donor agencies in the state of Connecticut and surrounding states. Sperm samples that we receive from either type of donor are safely cryopreserved in our on site laboratory until they are needed for insemination.
